The JWU is a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded more than 35 years ago by a Palestinian woman.
The intention of this non-profit is to defend women who are victims of domestic violence, especially those who are at risk of a crime of honor, a rather common occurrence in countries that are majority Muslim.
Because of the work of the JWU, many women and girls have the possibility to have a shelter to escape the violence of their fathers, husbands, and brothers.
Inside the association, opportunities to learn a trade or occupation are offered to the victims, such as a hairdresser or cook, that allow them to become independent from their families.  Also, each woman has complete psychological and legal assistance.
